Energy Globe shows sustainable solutions at the World Climate Summit

In 2016, the Energy Globe World Award will be presented during the World Climate conference in Marrakech, Morocco, in cooperation with the Austrian Economic Chamber. This way, for the first time not only problems and theoretical solutions will be discussed but also sustainable best practice solutions for most of the world’s environmental problems will be presented.

With around 2000 sustainable and innovative project submissions from 180 countries, the Energy Globe World Award is today the world’s most important environmental prize according to the renowned company Arthur D. Little.

Main topic of the World Climate Conference in Marrakech is the climate change and the linked urgent need for a significant reduction of emissions. In order to emphasize this importance, the Energy Globe World Award will be held for the first time as an interactive event together with the Austrian Foreign Trade Offices. Nominees, presenters and citizens will be connected worldwide in an online festive ceremony for sustainability which will save the planet emissions as they will not be flown in as before.

The ceremony will take place in 6 different sessions, each dedicated to one of the categories: Earth, Fire, Youth, Water, Air and Sustainable Plastics. This latest category was initiated together with the Austrian company “Greiner”. Axel Kuehner, chairman of the board, points out that “plastic is an excellent material, which we have to deal with responsibly. We only have one planet and plastic producers have to take care of it too”.

The ceremony will be streamed worldwide on the Energy Globe website. The sessions will be moderated by Kimberly Budinsky – the current Miss Earth Austria, representing the next generation of the environmental activists. “An interactive online award ceremony gives us the chance to reach even more people all over the world who can get inspired by the outstanding environmental projects awarded with the prize”, she says.

In the categories Earth, Fire, Youth, Water, Air as well as the special category Sustainable Plastics 17 outstanding projects have been nominated by the international jury chaired by the former Indian environment minister Maneka Gandhi. These projects will be presented officially on 24th October.

On the awarding of the nominees can be watched everywhere in the world live on 10th November at 11 a.m. every hour on the hour. Additional information about Energy Globe can also be found here.

As Kofi Annan said: „The Energy Globe Awards demonstrate that clean and modern forms of energy to drive sustainable development and reduce environmental impacts are available now.“
