Project presentation - "Vatican Solar Project"

Solar panels on the roof of the Paul VI Hall in the Papal City

The photovoltaic system on the roof of the Audience Hall, donated to the pope in 2007 by Solar World AG, annually saves some 225 tons of CO2 and covers the complete annual energy demand of the building. Sustainable projects by the Vatican such as this photovoltaic system and the 105kW solar cooling system contribute to environmental protection.

Particularly noteworthy here is the installation of a modern system in a historically significant building. The Vatican plans to install solar collectors on the roofs of all its buildings, and work has already begun on buildings adjoining the Audience Hall. The goal is to supply all buildings with solar energy.

An example of the efforts of Pope Benedict XVI to implement his goals is the Pope Benedict House in Germany. A photovoltaic system was mounted on the roof and the power is fed into the public grid. The income is diverted to an association that supports disadvantaged youths.
