Education Centre TEREZA Wins Record Breaking 7th Czech Ecological Oscar Awards

Best Czech projects aimed at protection of the environment and saving energy were awarded prizes for the seventh time in history. The winner of E.ON Energy Globe Award CZ, held in the Czech Republic by E.ON, is the education centre TEREZA, chosen in a public poll. TEREZA organizes ecological projects for students of primary and secondary schools.

This prestigious award is held in 177 countries. In the Czech Republic the interest of expert as well as lay public was immense. “We had the total of 373 projects enrolled. In spring the jury chose four nominated projects which went on to compete for the final victory,” explains Michael Fehn from E.ON.

The overall winner of E.ON Energy Globe Award CZ was chosen in a public poll: people could vote on the internet or by sending text messages; people attending the gala ceremony could also vote. Together they chose TEREZA Association, a centre running educational programs focusing on ecology.

“Voting was very equal until the very end, which only proves the high quality of all the nominated projects,“ says Michael Fehn and he goes on to explain: “Educational programs organized by TEREZA reach each year 90,000 students. That is a number that exceeds the number of inhabitants in most Czech cities.” The overall winner received the main prize, which is ŠKODA Octavia Combi G-TEC. It will later represent the Czech Republic in world finals.

During the ceremony of E.ON Energy Globe Award CZ, which took place on 1 October in Oskar Nedbal Theatre in Tábor, several special prizes were awarded. “Architect Aleš Brotánek was awarded for his contribution, as he has been trying to push forward low-energy and passive construction since the 1990s,” said Michael Fehn.

We also have the winner of the Idea category, where projects that are only in the pipeline are acknowledged. “Experts valued the idea to build the micro power plant WAVE, which will be able to produce heat and electric power using biomass. The idea comes from a research team of experts from CTU (Czech Technical University) in Prague and it focuses on hoseholds and small enterprises. I will receive from E.ON and our partner CETELEM financial and other support,” specifies Michael Fehn. During the gala ceremony, E.ON signed with the city of Tábor a memorandum concerning cooperation in the field of increasing energy efficiency.

You can watch the ceremony, together with the performance of the main star of the evening: Karel Gott, on ČT1 on 10 October from 9:55.
